Larry was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Leroy and Hazel Mays on January 21, 1939. He was educated in the Philadelphia school system until his graduation from high school. He worked for the City of Philadelphia until he retired.
Larry had many interests. He enjoyed taking trips on his motorcycle with Margaret and friends. He traveled with Margaret and others to Europe and Africa to attend many International Conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he loved photography and fishing and spending time with our family.
Larry became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses while living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
His spiritual journey began when his grandmother introduced him, while he was young, to Bible teachings. He grew spiritually in his youth by studying the Bible, attending Christian meetings, and engaging regularly in the life saving work recorded in the Bible at Matthew chapter twenty-eight, verses nineteen and twenty.
This journey led him to dedicate his life to the Creator of mankind and symbolize that dedication at the “Divine Will International Assembly of Jehovah’s Witnesses,” in August 1958.
Larry was known for his comprehensive knowledge of the Holy Scriptures as well as following closely the direction received through the Jehovah’s organization.
His work, in various congregations, included encouraging his spiritual brothers and sisters to stay close to Jehovah, taking the lead in the door to door witnessing activity (which is familiar to many) and he loved taking brothers under his wings and spiritually nurturing them. This resulted in many special relationships being formed.
After decades of faithful service, Larry fell asleep in death on November 21, 2024.
He will be missed by Margaret his loving wife of 54 years, four children, one stepson, one daughter-in-law, five grandchildren, many great grandchildren, other family members, and countless friends who loved him.
Larry will remain in Jehovah’s memory until he is resurrected to life in paradise on earth as God’s word promises: “Do not marvel at this for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” (John 5:28 and 29)
He will be remembered by all who knew him as a loyal and faithful worshipper of Jehovah, our God.
