Kathryn S. Pierson, age 98, of Newark, DE passed away August 26, 2016 at Christiana Hospital.

Born May 21, 1918 in Stanton, DE, Kathryn was the daughter of the late Francis R. and Anna M. (Richards) Stafford. Kathryn graduated from Newark High School and then obtained her Associate’s Degree from Goldey Business School. In her younger years, Kathryn worked at the Blue Hen Dairy in Wilmington, DE. She later began her career as the Assistant to the Dean of Agriculture at the University of Delaware where she retired after 30 years of service. She also volunteered for Meals On Wheels and the Hope Dining Room. She was a life-long member of the Christiana United Methodist Church and a resident of Millcroft since 2000.

She is survived by her four step-children, Janet A. Pierce (Raymond) of Peoria, IL, Edwin M. Pierson (Margo) of Spokane, WA, Sarah P. Whittaker of Decatur, GA, and George Woodward Pierson (Lisa) of Charlotte, NC; 7 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great grandchildren; nieces, Nancy G. Wenner (Mark), JoAnn S. Dawson (Ted), and Arlene L. R. Kace (Mo); nephews, Francis Stafford (Katherine), Robert Stafford, Jr. (Katherine), Robert Lynch (Leslie), George P. Lynch (Michelle), and David Green; and sister-in-law, Mabel Stafford.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin P. Pierson; step-granddaughter, Robin L. Pierce; brother, Robert Stafford; twin sister, Edythe Green and her husband Roy; and step-son-in-law, David Whittaker.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30PM Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Christiana United Methodist Church, 21 West Main Street Christiana, Delaware 19702. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made payable to Christiana United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
