Karen Lynn Gough, 58, of North East, MD passed away of natural causes on Monday, October 24, 2016 at her home. Born April 10, 1958 in Havre de Grace, MD, Karen was the daughter of the late Johnny Gilbert Lough and the late June Lee (Thompson) Lough.
Karen dedicated her life to helping others overcome addiction. For the last 12 years, she worked at the Ashley Addiction Treatment Center, formerly known as Father Martin’s Ashley. She was a 1976 graduate of Rising Sun High School. She was a talented musician and could play any instrument she picked up. She loved music, movies, and cats.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Kari Gough Phillips, and her husband, Michael, of North East, MD; and her daughter, Niki Blumberg, and her husband, Darren, of Basking Ridge, NJ; and five grandchildren, Elise and Gabriel Phillips, and Jack, Lucas, and Katherine Blumberg. She is also survived by her sister, Sharon Robertson; brother, John Lough, and his wife, Barbara Jodlbauer-Lough; friend and former spouse, Rick Gough; numerous nieces and nephews; and her best friend and friend of the family, Wesley Poist.
A service to celebrate Karen’s life will be held at 1PM on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911, where family and friends may visit beginning at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be mailed to the Chesapeake Feline Association at P.O. Box 743, North East, MD 21901.

I enjoyed our talks about her daughters and grandchildren, what she did on her days off. Just last Thursday evening she stopped by my office with a stick of butter in her hand. She told me the story of how Dr. Taylor taught her how to make butter and peanut butter sandwiches. We laughed about how that tradition had survived so many years. I am going to miss her so much but know she will be looking down on us every single day. Karen, was a very special person and you all have every right to be proud of her.

Karen hired me into Father Martin's Ashley a little over 10 years ago. Although I changed departments soon thereafter, we remained tight. I could ALWAYS count on Karen in a crisis situation, no matter what.
