Juanita Sevy age 80 of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026. She was born on March 3, 1945, in Somerville, NJ, to the late Cecil E. Frasier and the late Pauline S. (Saums) Frasier.
Juanita worked many years as the Head Cashier for Acme Markets. In her role, she was known for her hard work, unwavering kindness and ability to brighten the day of every customer she encountered.
Juanita found immense joy spending time gardening, particularly in her vegetable garden, where she grew tomato plants, a specialty that she shared with her family. She enjoyed canning and preserving the bounty of her garden. She was also a dedicated quilter, weaving together pieces of fabric into beautiful creations. If Juanita wasn’t gardening, canning, or quilting she could be found spending time by the water, where she made countless memories with her family. Juanita was a member of the Newark Senior Center, where she actively participated in the “Meeting of the Minds” class. There, she shared her wisdom and experiences, fostering a community of learning and camaraderie. Juanita also had a love for animals, especially her dogs: Trixie, Bucky, and Tater.
Juanita’s life was a beautiful tapestry of love, kindness, and generosity. She leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered with warmth and affection by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Juanita is preceded in death by her husband, James H. Sevy; brother, Mark H. Frasier; daughter-in-law, Hazel Shortlidge.
Juanita is survived by her children: Donald E. Shortlidge, Dale E. Shortlidge, and Sonya L. Loy (husband, Kenneth); grandchildren: Krystal Rappe (husband, Stephen), Kelly Shortlidge, Samuel Shortlidge, Anastasia Loy, Gwendolyn Loy, and Zilla Loy; great-grandchild, Harvey Rappe; sisters: Judith Abrego, and Linda Crockett.
A celebration of Juanita’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 12:00 pm at R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., Newark, DE, where family and friends may begin visiting at 11:00 am. A graveside service will be held at a later date at New London Presbyterian Cemetery.
