Joyce (Fulthorpe) Falcon of Elkton, MD., peacefully passed away with her family by her side on May 3, 2013. She was born in New Castle, England on July 20, 1926 to Arthur and Lillian Fulthorpe. She came to this country aboard the Queen Mary in November of 1945 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1956.
Joyce was always a hard worker. She worked the farms, packed fruit, and was a member of the Woman’s Land Army in England. When she first came into this country, Joyce worked at the Slaymaker Lock Company in Lancaster, PA. She spent many years as a devoted mother and homemaker. After her children were grown, Joyce became the Manager of Schaefer’s Market and Marina and worked there into her 70’s. She had found memories of her time at Schaefer’s. Joyce loved flowers, knitting, crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family. In her younger years, she was quite a good dancer, enjoyed bowling, and playing cards with the ladies.
Joyce is survived by two sisters, Olive Smith of England and Audrey Rendina of Uniontown, PA, four children, Valerie Gorman of Chesapeake City, MD, Dorothy Andrew, of Clayton, DE, Jimmy Falcon of Elkton, MD, and Suzanne Falcon of Havre de Grace, MD, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was fortunate to have in her life a devoted future daughter in law, Lisa Saxton, and a loving ex-daughter in law, Becky Short. Joyce was surrounded by many caring extended family members.
The services are private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the International Rett Syndrome Foundation, 4600 Devitt Drive, Cincinnati, OH 45246, (http://www.rettsyndrome.org/) to benefit the apple of Joyce’s eye, her granddaughter, Regina Falcon.
