Joyce Elaine Gatta, 70, of Rising Sun, MD, went to be with the Lord, peacefully, after a brief illness.
Born in Boothwyn, PA on August 3, 1942, Joyce was the daughter of the late Charles and Katherine Lythgoe Phillips. She was a homemaker, devoted to her family. Joyce was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting and was talented at solving crossword puzzles. The family would like to extend their love and gratitude for the care she received by the amazing staff at Calvert Manor Healthcare over the past year and a half.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, a son, Charles Gatta and his wife Heather of Port Deposit, MD; three daughters, Katherine Haines and her husband Benjamin of Nottingham, PA, Yvonne Miller of Newark, DE and Nicole Gilley and her husband Mike of Conowingo, MD; four grandchildren, Lená Gulick, Jeremy Haines, Madisyn Gilley and Declan Gatta; four great grandchildren, Star, Trinity, Katherine and Adam; two brothers, Richard and James Phillips and three sisters, Katherine Wood, Edna Ellsworth and Sara Jane Phillips. She was preceded in death by her brother Raymond Phillips.
A service honoring her life will be held at 3 PM on Monday July 8, 2013 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911 with a visitation beginning at 2 PM. Burial will be Tuesday July 9 at 11 am at Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, PA. Memorial contribution checks may be made payable to Calvert Manor Nursing Scholarship Fund c/o the funeral home. This was one of the last times we were in our old house. It brings back great memories of our family sitting around that table, in that room and just talking. Thanksgiving's and Christmas's were spent at that table, in that room with our family. And Grand-Mom was always there, most times with some ice water.
