Joshua Phillip Luff, age 20, of Newark, DE passed away on
May 24, 2013. He was born on April 13, 1993 in Newark, DE. Joshua attended the Sanford School in Hockessin, DE where he played soccer and baseball. He was a graduate of A.I. DuPont class of 2011 and member of their swim team. He attended the University of Delaware studying Wildlife Conservation, finishing his sophomore year in 2013, where he was a member of their swim club. He also played on the W.L. Gore Soccer League with his brother Eric and his father Matt. Josh was looking forward to studying abroad in Africa for Wildlife Conservation. He loved his mom’s cooking and the outdoors; hunting, fishing and spending time with his dogs, Sadie, Montana and Dora.
He is survived by his father, Matthew Luff and wife Sheri of Elkton, MD; mother, Joyce Ann Luff and Tom Inagaki of Newark, DE; brothers, Eric Luff and wife Samantha of New Providence, VA, James Secor and wife Krystal of Elkton, MD, and Bryan Inagaki and wife Kristen of Falls Church, VA; sister, Danielle Guthrie and husband Marc of New Castle, DE; paternal grandparents, Albert and Ella Luff of Chesapeake City, MD; one nephew, six nieces and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Ida Thompson.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Service celebrating his life at 11:00 am on Friday, May 31, 2013 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711 with visitation starting at 10 am. There will also be a Visitation held on Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Burial will follow services on Friday at St. James Episcopal Cemetery in Millcreek-Stanton, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Labrador Retriever Rescue Inc., LRR.org c/o the funeral home.

I met Josh this past fall in Spanish class and we instantly became friends. He gave off so much of a fun vibe that it was always smiles and laughter when we were in class or ate lunch together. One day when we were eating lunch we were talking about football at UD and how I was supposed to try and come back from my injury in the spring and play. I was very timid about playing again and lost all believe in myself as an athlete. Josh gave me some great advice that day just trying to help me gain my confidence saying how he watched me play a couple times in high school and new I could play here and just totally got behind me 100% and pushed me to follow my dream of playing here at UD. Well with his help and others I chased my dream and achieved it. It could not have been done without all the people in my corner cheering me on and for that I am forever grateful for a friend like Josh to take my doubts in myself and turn them into self-confidence to go and try and attack this goal. Josh was a great friend and an awesome person. I will never forget his love towards me and will never forget his words of encouragement as I continue on with my athletic career. I will always include him in my pre-game prayers along with my grandfather and will write his initials on my arm band right next to me Papa’s as well. I know this gesture may seem small and insignificant, but it means a lot to me and I hope it shows you one way no matter how small it is, that he will live on through many a different people.

I met Josh this past fall in Spanish class and we instantly became friends. He gave off so much of a fun vibe that it was always smiles and laughter when we were in class or ate lunch together. One day when we were eating lunch we were talking about football at UD and how I was supposed to try and come back from my injury in the spring and play. I was very timid about playing again and lost all believe in myself as an athlete. Josh gave me some great advice that day just trying to help me gain my confidence saying how he watched me play a couple times in high school and new I could play here and just totally got behind me 100% and pushed me to follow my dream of playing here at UD. Well with his help and others I chased my dream and achieved it. It could not have been done without all the people in my corner cheering me on and for that I am forever grateful for a friend like Josh to take my doubts in myself and turn them into self-confidence to go and try and attack this goal. Josh was a great friend and an awesome person. I will never forget his love towards me and will never forget his words of encouragement as I continue on with my athletic career. I will always include him in my pre-game prayers along with my grandfather and will write his initials on my arm band right next to me Papa’s as well. I know this gesture may seem small and insignificant, but it means a lot to me and I hope it shows you one way no matter how small it is, that he will live on through many a different people.
