Josephine Ellul Latchford, age 88, of Newark, DE since 1978, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Christiana Hospital surrounded by her family.
Josephine was born September 01, 1927 in Malta, Europe, the daughter of the late Michael and M. Anne (Caruana) Ellul. She married Francis Alessandro who preceded her in death in 1946. She then remarried Thomas G. Latchford, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1973. Josephine worked for the Christina School District for 20 years at the Ogletown Middle School Cafeteria. Upon retirement she enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing bingo, and spending time with her family. She was a past member of the Holy Family alter society.
Josephine is survived by her children, Anthony (Connie) Alessandro, Sal (Carmen) Alessandro, Elizabeth Latchford Debono, Mary (Michael) Thompson, Nancy (Wally) Newcomb, and Thomas (Jeannette) Latchford, Jr.; siblings, Concetta, Michael, Mary, Antida, and Andrew; 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her grandson, John Foran and siblings, Carmena, Leonard, and Teresa.
A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30am on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:30am. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the American Heart Association and sent care of the funeral home.
