Joseph W. Lanahan, age 76, of Rising Sun, MD passed away on January 27, 2013. Joseph was born in Darby, PA on March 12, 1936 to the late William A. & Vivian (Nelson) Lanahan.
Joseph was a retired Lt. Col. of the Delaware Air National Guard. He was Squad Commander and Deputy Commander of Maintenance. He had a C-130 aircraft named in his honor as the FY 2008 Camp Honoree. He was also a member of Retired Officers Association, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club of Aston, PA and Alcoholic Anonymous.
He is survived by his wife, Irene A. Lanahan of Rising Sun, MD; a son, William A. Lanahan of Avondale, PA; daughters, Mary C. Murphy and her husband George of Hertford, NC; Diane M. Knittel and her husband Greg of Avondale, PA., and Rebecca Ann Woodall and her husband William, Sr. of Galena, MD; two brothers, Richard Lanahan and his wife Pam of Dallas, TX and James Lanahan and his wife Julie of Erie, PA; grandchildren, William A. Jr, Ryan B., Brandon, Kali, Lara, Quinn, Rachael and William, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Tony Lanahan; and sister, Mary Lanahan, SNR.
A Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at St Dennis Church, 153 N. Main St, Galena, MD 21635
Committal Service will be held 11:00 am on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors c/o the funeral home.
