Dear Lanahan Family, I am sure you all don't remember me but I am Aunt Athies sister. I use to have picnics at your house and visit with my mom Lena Klose.. We also did Stone Harbor trips with you all a couple of times. I always enjoyed your parents and thought they were pretty "cool". Please know that I am thinking of you all and to ALWAYS remember the wonderful times with both both your parents. Fondly, Kathy

Growing up I remember looking up to Uncle Joe and hanging on his every word as he told us stories. He had a way of grabbing our attention and keeping us wrapped up in the story. When Mom and Dad said we were going to visit we would get excited to run down the big hill to play on those awesome swings and spend time with our cousins! Time with Uncle Joe and Aunt Irene was always fun. Uncle Joe had a way of making us feel at home and a part of the excitement. I remember him giving us a tour of the big planes and never forgetting to bring soveniers back. As I grew one of my fondest memories is when I got to go stay at the house on the beach with Uncle Joe and Aunt Irene. They showed me that they truly loved one another. Uncle Joe will be missed by all of us, but I know he is in heaven watching over us with Aunt Mary,Grandma and Grandpa.

Dear Irene and family: Charles and I were very sad to hear about Joe. We know his faith and are rest assured that he is at "the party" in heaven. We met you many years ago when we were neighbors to Joe's sister Sister Mary SSND, Joe and Irene. We have had the pleasure to be included in family functions and have met everyone. Joe felt very blessed to have his family and our sympathy goes out to all. Joe had many endearing quallities and one of them was his choice of his lovely wife Irene many years ago. God's blessings of peace and confort to all. Peggy and Charles

Dad, You were right you can't hoot with the owls at night if you want to soar with the eagles in the morning! Just one of many things you taught me over the years that I have passed on to my children. We can't even beging to know how much we will miss you. We had so many wonderful times growing up. Growing up on Garden Lane, in Aston was the best! We all have wonderful memories and good stories from our youth. The sound of the ice cream truck coming around each night during the summer. Not sure if this was a smart move on our parts looking back it sure was fun running behind the mosiquto truck. Sledding down the hills in our back yard with all our neighborhood friends was a blast even if we did get frost bite from staying outside for so long. Let's not forget raking all those leaves in the fall to jump into. You showed us the world through your eyes in your travels with the Air National Guard, and the United States on our vacations as a family. We had many years of summer fun in Stone Harbour, NJ with family, and friends. When you and mom built your home and retired in Kentmore Park it made even more memories for not just your children but your grandchildren. You will always and forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Irene and Family, Although the years have created much distance between us, all of your kindness and generous ways were no farther that a thought away. May the serenity that comes from sharing the loving memories of Joe comfort all of you now and in the days ahead. Peace and love always. Sincerely, Ray
Lt Colonel (ret.) Paul Willey left a message on January 30, 2013:
Joe was a tremendous mentor throughout my time in the Air Guard and a great friend for all the years afterward. I’ve never met a Commander who cared more for his “troops” and truly exemplified the Air Force core value of Service before Self. He will be sorely missed.
