Joseph “Joey” Mello of Wilmington, DE, age 36, passed away suddenly Monday, April 24, 2017. He was born in Staten Island, NY on July 8, 1980 to late Diane Mello and Peter Cotroneo.
Joey loved playing football at Port Richmond High School in Staten Island, NY. He was an avid New York Giants football fan. Joey enjoyed fishing, crabbing, dancing and spending time with his family especially with his pal, Jon. He worked at Bing’s Bakery in Newark, DE for five years, where he earned the nickname “Bada Bing”. He will be greatly missed for his kind and loving spirit.
Joey is survived by his companion, Lisa Gane of Wilmington, DE, two brothers: Edward Collins and Peter Mello of Staten Island, NY; dear life-long friends, Carla Guzzi and her husband, Tom of Newark, DE, daughter, Makenna of Newark, DE, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service in Joey’s honor will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Family and friends may begin visiting at 12PM. In lieu of flowers, to help with funeral expenses, memorial donations can be made payable to “Ed Collins” or “Carla Guzzi” and sent to 253 E. Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
