John William Mason

Bill Mason, 79, of Chesapeake City, MD, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Born in Elkton, MD on December 28, 1932, Bill was predeceased by his parents, Edna B. and John Mason and his brother, Ralph Mason.

Bill served his country during the Korean War as a ‘Frogman’ while in the Navy from 1951-1955. After an Honorable Discharge, he worked for the DuPont Co.’s American Dredging Co. and then had his own construction company from which he retired. He was an active member of Chesapeake City’s community. He was an original member of CC’s VFW Club, served as Mayor of the city, and was a passionate member of the CC Lions Club where he served terms as Treasurer, Vice President and President. An avid sports enthusiast, he rooted for the O’s, the Colts, and then the Ravens. He was a mentor to many who learned from his leadership on the playing fields where he managed soccer teams, senior league baseball, and Babe Ruth baseball.

Bill was devoted to Jacqueline, his wife of 47 years who survives him, and his family. He is survived by his children, Cynthia Fife of Pleasantville, IL, Susan Granville of Magee, MS, Danielle Fleagle of Bear, DE and Jon Mason of Pottstown, PA; seven grandchildren, Steven, Colette, Ryan, Jillian, Derek, Ashlee, and Jenn; and two great grand-children. His greatest joys came from family gatherings where he took pleasure in sharing his generous spirit through home cooking and a hearty laugh. In recent years, he enjoyed Thursday evening poker games with his friends.

A private service for family will be held at Bethel Cemetery. No viewing or ceremony is scheduled. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Chesapeake City Lions Club c/o R. T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 318 George Street, Chesapeake City, MD 21915.
