John Rene Guertin, 74, passed away early the morning of March 29, 2025. He was born December 29, 1950 in Manchester, NH, to the late Camille Gerard Guertin and Jeanette Cecile (Comeau) Guertin.

John will be remembered as a renaissance man. He was an avid book lover, with a passion for writing his own poetry and short stories; a guitar player and folk music enthusiast. He found enjoyment in the little things like playing chess and cards. Oftentimes he could be found playing tennis, or finding other ways to stay active.

John is survived by his children: Nicholas Guertin, Christina Guertin Urena and her husband Christian, Louis Guertin and his wife Rosa, Lisa Torres and her husband Carlos; his grandchildren: Danielle, Gabriella, Katarina, Mateo, Leonardo, Jeremiah, Dylan, Marley, Emilio, and Raquel; and his siblings: Paula Mortenson, Charles Guertin, and Therese Romero. In addition to his parents, he has been preceded in death by his wife: Kathyrn Guertin; his brother: Bernard; his sister-in-law: Kathleen Schiaffino; his mother-in-law: Thelma Schiaffino; and his father-in-law: Luigi Schiaffino.

A memorial service will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 454 Bow Street, Elkton, MD 21921, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9, family will be accepting guests for visitation at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, John’s family asks that you please donate to “Memorial Sloan Kettering” or “CASA of Elkton,” sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A. at 259 East Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921.

An additional service will be held on Staten Island the following day, Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 10 Austin Place, Staten Island, NY 10304.
