John R. Sanderson, age 78, of Colora, MD passed away peacefully on October 27, 2017. Born on September 7, 1939 in Ilion, NY, he was the son of the late Francis and Mary Frances (Campeau) Sanderson.
John served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy. He then went on to work as a machinist, retiring after 50 years. One of John’s favorite hobbies was raising Border Collies with his wife, Sandra, and traveling to many sheep dog trials. He was also an avid reader, and will be remembered as a devoted husband and father.
John is survived by his daughter, Nannette Bethard and her husband, Sonny; two grandchildren: Nicholas and Celeste Bethard; two sisters: Margaret Bailey of New York and Mary Jane Nagel of California; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandra Sanderson.
Services honoring John’s life will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at West Nottingham Presbyterian Cemetery, 1195 Firetower Road, Colora, MD 21917. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “Plumpton Park Zoo” and sent care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., PO Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
