John R. Miller, age 66, of Colora, MD passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013 at his home.
John was born on July 15, 1946 in Baltimore, MD. He was a 1964 graduate of Poly Technic Institute and graduate of Cecil Community College as a member of Alfa Alfa Thada National Honor Society. He worked for Bethlehem Steel Shipyard for over 25 years, Newport News Shipyard and was most recently retired from W.L. Gore in 2011 as a Facilities Engineer at Elk Mills I. While at Gore he was awarded The Water Carrier for his exemplary service. John loved fishing, boating, hunting, camping, hiking, motorcycling, crabbing, photography, and travel.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Virginia (CoVan) Miller of Colora, MD; sister-in-law, Dotty Barrett and husband Butch of Dexter Mo; sister-in-law, Kathryn Duman of Baltimore, MD; niece, Robin Standfield and husband Glen of Dexter, MO; nephew, William Meyers and wife Ginger of Baltimore, MD; niece, Katie Barron of Bensalem, PA; Belinda Gonzalez and Husband Juan of Cockeysville, Md; J’Aime Kenney and significant other Valentine: great nephews, Bryan Meyers, Jamie Aquirre, Isaiah Gonzalez, Ismael Torres, Richardo Torres, Javier Gonzalez; great nieces, Lyndsi Meyers, Mikaela Aquirre, Gabriela Barron, AlejandraTorres, Thalia Torres, Adriana torres and his first great great nephew Dadrian Scriber born in May 2012 who he got to see, hold and love.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary (Miller) Williams; Grandparents John Francis and Viola Rachel Miller; uncle and aunt Bernard and Margaret Miller; aunt and uncle Jane and Monroe Piper.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911, where friends may visit from 12pm to 2pm. Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Amedisys Hospice Care c/o of the funeral home.
