John “Jack” R. Brockell, age 73, of Newark, DE, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE. He was born in Elkton, MD on November 9, 1938 to Charles R. & Edna Brockell.
Jack is a 1957 graduate of Elkton High School. He attended Wesley College and the Delaware State Police Academy and was a Delaware State Trooper for 20 years until retiring in 1988. He then worked for MBNA as a Security Specialist for 10 years.
Jack spent his retirement divided between Newark and Lewes, DE, where he passed away. He was totally devoted to his family and at his happiest with them. He was a devout Christian and loved the Lord. Almost daily, Jack hiked through White Clay Creek State Park with his family. He also enjoyed the National Parks, especially in the West and had a lifelong fascination with Native American history and culture.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lindsay Brockell of Newark, DE; and his three daughters, Laura Johnson (Greg) of Newark, Lisa Brockell of Hockessin, and Beth Newman (Mark) of Indianapolis, IN. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Ryan and Luke Johnson of Newark, and Ben and Meg Newman of Indianapolis. “Poppie” attended as many of their sporting events as possible.
Also surviving are brothers, Dick and Emmitt Brockell (Loretta) of Elkton, MD and Vernon (Jane) of Perryville; sister, Jo Ellen Maclary (Jake) of Newark; sister in law, Louise Dick (Jim) of Sandestin, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 11:00 am at R.T. Foard and Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711, where friends and family may visit one hour prior. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church or the Salvation Army, c/o the funeral home.
