John Patrick Feeley, Jr., age 85, of New Castle, DE passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024. He was born on October 2, 1938, in Wilmington, DE.
Jack – as he was known to friends and family – had stories about everything. A Delaware native, he had stories about every building, person, place, and street in the state. Many of those stories came from his time in radio, where he was known by his on-air name “Little John Patrick.” During his time with Delaware stations WAMS and WNRK, Jack interviewed notable people and covered numerous events… and he loved telling everyone about all of them.
Jack also had stories about Ireland, the “best place in the world” as he saw it. He was deeply proud of his Irish heritage and visited Ireland many times. He could almost always be found wearing something Irish – a cap, claddagh ring, the family crest, or his favorite “World’s Tallest Leprechaun” shirt. Much to the comfort of his family, Jack had an amazing visit to his favorite places in Ireland earlier this year.
Jack and his family also loved going to Disney. After decades of visits, he liked talking about memories from past trips and changes in the parks over the years.
Jack was very proud of his military service and full of stories about his time in the Army. And he was always happy to talk about his other favorite things, like making woodcrafts, working at the Home Depot, feeding his squirrels, “making a meal out of” cheese dip, driving out to Lancaster and Longwood, watching BritBox, and taking care of his orchids.
But more than any of these things, Jack loved his wife and his boys. He wasn’t always the most forward with his feelings, but he made sure his sons knew he was proud and that his wife knew she was loved. He admired his older son’s ability to work with his hands, as Jack so loved to do; and his younger son’s affinity for music and tech.
Everyone who met Jack talks about his stories. They were colorful and numerous… if sometimes dubious in accuracy. He used them to share his experiences, entertain friends, and relate to the world around him. His family is grateful for everyone who has been part of these stories over the years, and thankful to have and carry on these stories in his memory.
John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda Feeley; sons: John Feeley, III, and Brian Feeley (Katie).
He was preceded in death by his parents.
