John H. McCormick, Jr., age 85, of Middletown , DE passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2012. He was born in Thurmond, WV on May 16, 1926 to the late John H. McCormick Sr. and Lottie Lee McCormick. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and son. He was a proud veteran having served his country during WW II as a member of the 101st Airborne Division Screamin’ Eagles.

He is survived by his loving wife, Doris (Morrison) McCormick, son, Kevin McCormick, Sr. of Dover, DE, daughters Tammy McCormick-Snead (Robert) of Bear, DE, Kim Tolliver (Mike) of Middletown, DE and sons Gerry McCormick, Sr. (Mary) of FL, and John H. McCormick, III of FL, 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and sisters Bonnie Maurer (John) of Wilmington, DE, Patricia Coultas (Patrick) of Las Vegas NV, and Carolyn Canter (Gene) of VA.

In Addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son Keith, sisters Charlotte, Peggy and Beulah, and brother Keith.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE.

It’s an emptier and colder world without Junior. My earliest memory of him when, perched atop a utility pole on West Main in Newark over 60 years ago, he would shake his fist at me for driving too fast. He’d be grinning. I slowed down. He always treated our family as a part of his own, and we are much the better for it.
