John Edward Phillips of Landenberg, PA, age 66, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018. He was born in Delaware on August 13, 1952 to the late John Phillips and Margaret (Jameson) Phillips.

In his youth John was proud of his time spent as an Eagle Scout. As an adult he worked as a metrologist and machinist for DuPont, and later for Siemens, before retiring in 2009. In his leisure time John enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardening and collecting antiques.

John is survived by his three children: David Phillips of New Castle, DE, Brian Phillips of Vienna, VA and Rebecca Kriss (Jonathan) of Christiansburg, VA; as well as seven siblings and several extended family members. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy Lucille Phillips.

A memorial service will be held in John’s honor at 7:00 pm on Friday, November 9, 2018 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711, where family and friends may begin visiting at 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s honor may be made payable to the “American Heart Association” and sent in care of the funeral home.

Can't believe he is gone. John taught me to ride a two wheel bike without training wheels. Showed me my first deer. Taught me to hit a baseball and climb a tree. Showed me what poison ivy was too. All things kids do. May God give him rest . May Cathy and him both rest in peace.
My thoughts and prayers are with his children at this time.

"Lost for words at the passing of John. Remember running down back of the house on Ogletown road looking for a strange animal that chased him up a tree. I never saw it, but I believed him. He caught a flounder at Wildwood and that made his day. Sometimes he was a scientist doing experiments. Rest in peace John, we'll meet again.

I am deeply saddened to learn of John's passing. Although we failed to maintain close contact over the years, John was in my wedding, was God Father to my first son and a loyal friend. I will always remember our fishing excursions and Yahtzee games well into the night while at UD. Rest In Peace my friend!

So sorry to hear this. John did love his time in scouts and was always a hard worker. He was thrifty and very knowledgeable about his hobbies. It is so sad he is gone so young. Prayers for the Brian, David and Rebecca.

So sorry for your loss John was my cousin and we grew up together but as things happen lost touch many yrs ago

So shocked to see that he passed. Haven't seen him since he was a little boy. My prayers go out to the family. His Father and my Father were brothers. So sad.
