Chief Warrant Officer 4, John Earl Hunter, United States Army (Ret.) of Port Deposit, MD, went home to his Lord and Savior on December 18, 2025. John lived a life of selfless service to the nation he loved. He served with untiring devotion for 22 years and was known for his dedication to excellence and lived with great honor and integrity.
John began his life on May 23, 1944, in West Chester, PA. He was born to Ernest Kirk Hunter and Margaret Reeder Hunter. He was blessed to be married to his incredibly loving wife, Connie, for 57 years. While John was proud of his service in the military, he was even more proud of his adoring daughters, Lori Pfeiffer, and her husband Mark Pfeiffer, and Jessie Hunter, and her husband JR Philhower, as well as his beautiful grandchildren Brianna Pfeiffer and Donovan Hunter.
During his years in the Army, John served in Alabama, Kansas, Texas, Korea and West Germany. He was known for his exemplary service, remarkable drive, leadership, intelligence and high degree of expertise in his field. During his career, he earned a remarkable 6 Meritorious Service Medals, Meritorious Service Medal with 1 silver oak leaf cluster, and an Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal as well as countless other awards and recognition. To know John was to know a man whose life was steeped in a legacy of selfless generosity and patriotism, leaving a profound mark on every life he touched.
After retiring from the Army, John’s unmatchable drive to be a success continued when he opened Hunter’s Discount Grocery in North East, MD while concurrently working as a government contractor as a logistical engineer. He instilled his strong work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering integrity in his daughters and grandchildren who are so proud to follow in his footsteps. John was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Housekeeper Hunter, parents Ernest and Marget Hunter and sister Florence Waltman. He leaves behind his brothers Raymond, Norman and Ernie Hunter, his two sisters, Margaret Dilworth and Linda Marshall as well as countless family members and friends.
Services will be held at RT Foard Funeral Home in Rising Sun, MD on January 2, 2026. Visitation will be from 10-11am with the service immediately following at 11am. Burial will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his honor to Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
