John D. Marr, Jr, age 95, of Newark, DE, and formerly of Needham, MA, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Newark Manor Nursing Home in Newark, DE. He was born in Wilmington, DE on January 2, 1921, to the late John D., Sr. and Marian Hodkin Marr.
John served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a combat engineer. Following his active duty, he would remain in the Army Reserve, serving 35 years and retiring as a full Colonel. After the war, he worked as an engineering consultant on various projects including the second span of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. He later accepted the position of the Town Engineer of Needham, MA. John served on the Board of Selectmen in Needham, and was a member of the Needham Conservation Commission. He was a longtime and proud member of Rotary International.
He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Ann Tucker, of Boston, MA; son, Donald H. Marr and his wife, Catherine A., of Clifton, VA; and daughter, Deborah M. Morehead, and her husband, Mark R., of Newark, DE; sister, Mary Jane Wolbers, of Temple, NH; and four grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Harriet Schricker Marr, in 2010.
