J. Barrie Boas of Perryville, MD and Debary, Florida was born on July 2, 1937 and passed away on May 3, 2018. He was the son of Lester “Red” W. Boas and Kathryn L. (Manual) Herr. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Sheryl Lynn.
Barrie graduated from J.P. McCaskey in 1955 and Millersville University in 1981. He served in the Air Force from 1955 to 1959 in Tripoli, Libya, N. Africa and the Air Force Reserves from 1959 to 1968.
Barrie worked as a manager for Sherwin Williams, 1960-62; computer operations at Hamilton Watch Co., 1962-63; and Educators Insurance from 1963-1974 (received the President’s Award in 1967-68). He owned and operated the Oregon Hotel, Mount Joy Hotel, Ephrata Motel, and several apartment houses in the Lancaster area. He was a partner of the Spring House Tavern with Sylvia Blashok and a partner of the Horse Inn with Al Medved which he sold to his partner in 1984. He purchased the Craft Haven Marina and Campground in Perryville, MD on the North East River in 1978.
He was active in the Lancaster Jaycees, was a member of the Elks and Media Country Club when he lived in the Lancaster area. He was an avid golfer and tennis player. He enjoyed boating, motor homing and traveling to Germany touring the Munich and Oberzalberg area.
He is survived by his significant other, Donna Fritz; two sons, Michael of Perryville, MD and John of Perryville, MD; a daughter, Susan Boas of Lancaster, PA; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Lester “Bill” W. (Judy) Boas of Plataka, FL and Gary Boas of Lancaster, PA; and a sister, Brenda (Carl) Nielson, Florida. He will be greatly missed by his dogs, Snoopy and Roxy, who will look for him each day for their ride on the golf cart.
Services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
