JoAnn Speck

June 25, 1948 - December 10, 2021

JoAnn Russell Speck went home to be with the Lord on December 10th. JoAnn was the wife of, Carl Speck. They enjoyed 56 wonderful loving years of marriage together. She is survived by her husband, Carl, daughter Melissa Yonts, 2 grandsons, Brett Yonts and Duane Speck, brother, Rick Russell, and 3 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Duane, and her parents.

JoAnn was born on June 25th, 1948, in Elkton, MD, to Richard M. & Jean L. Russell. She was a lifelong resident of, Cecil County, where she worked as a town clerk for the town of Charlestown. JoAnn also served as a chief election judge and a Notary Public.

JoAnn was a member of NEMC. She enjoyed music, cooking, reading, trips to the beach, and most of all, spending time with her family.

She will be remembered for the smile she had for everyone, her gentle spirit, her love of laughter, her devotion to the Lord, and putting God and family above all else. She was an intelligent, and truly beautiful woman inside and out, and will be forever, greatly missed by so many.

A private service will be held Saturday, with a celebration of life to be announced at a future date. I am so very sad for your loss. Missy and I were very good friends for a time and I so loved JoAnn, she was very warm and welcoming to all of us Charlestown friends. Peace be with all of you during this time.

No words can remove the pain from your loss, but we do hold you in our prayers and thoughts. One of my fondest memories is when Carl Lee and JoAnn would come to see Dad and Mom. I always wanted to stay inside just to be around you two. I always looked up to Carl Lee and JoAnn as my hero’s. I still feel that way today.

I was so sorry to learn of Joann's passing. She worked at the Town of Charlestown town hall with my mother who adored her. I worked with her during the elections as an election judge and we had so much fun conversing with the voters. Rest in Peace my friend.

JoAnn was very special to me and like a second mother when Missy and I were younger. I have so many great memories but one of my favorite memories was that we couldn’t get anything by her, she was always a few steps ahead of us sneaky girls. Still not sure how she always caught us! She definitely was beautiful inside and out, very blessed to know her and have such great memories of her. Love you Carl & Missy.

I had been thinking about Joanne recently. Did not have her number. I went to school with her in Charlestown and NEHC. We had a good time together. She was a very nice person to have as a friend. I am so sorry to hear about her death.Tink Johnston

Family of Joann, My deepest sympathies to your family for the loss of your loved one. Joann was such a lovely lady and I always enjoyed my times talking with her. She will be missed.

My heart is breaking for Uncle Carl, Missy, Brett and the entire family. Aunt Joann was a very special and truly one of kind person. She always had a smile and a laugh that filled the room, and was much more then just an Aunt to me. She was the epitome of what the perfect Mom, Aunt, Wife and friend is. She will be forever missed.
