Joan Marie Taylor-Miller, 87, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2026. She was born on April 30, 1938, in Minersville, PA, to the late Michael and Mary (Cantwell) Keyso. To family and friends, Joan was lovingly known as “Hanie” for nearly her entire life.
Joan devoted her life to her faith in God, before, during, and after her years in the Convent as a Religious in the Order of St. Joseph. She ministered to generations of children across four states over four decades as a primary education teacher for grades K–3. She was also an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Holy Angels School, where her presence enriched faculty, staff, parents, and children alike.
A passionate traveler, Joan embraced every journey with curiosity and joy. Ireland held a special place in her heart, cherished both for its beauty and her Irish heritage.
Those who knew Joan will remember not only her warmth and unwavering faith, but also her quick wit. She had a gift for delivering sharp, perfectly timed one‑liners — the kind that could dissolve a room into laughter and lift even the heaviest moment. Her humor was never unkind; it was her way of connecting, comforting, and reminding others not to take life too seriously.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, John Miller; her son, Mark Taylor, and his wife, Stephanie; her stepchildren, David Miller (Kathy), and Sue Miller (Will); her grandchildren, Brandon Taylor, Derrick Taylor, and Kyle Taylor; her sisters, Dorothy Smolinsky, Regina McCready, and Mary Wheeler; as well as her sister-in-law, Judy Keyso, and brother-in-law, Robert MacCready. Joan also had deep love and pride for her numerous nieces and nephews, who brought her immense joy throughout her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Andy Keyso and John Keyso. She will be remembered for her warmth, her steadfast faith, her love of learning, and the deep care she showed to everyone around her. Joan’s legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the love she so freely gave.
