Joan King Chalker, age 83, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013. Joan was born in Wilmington, Delaware on February 6, 1929.
Joan attended Haverford High School, and then Penn State University, where she earned a degree in business. She went on to work with Frank Piasecki at Piasecki Helicopter during the development of the HRP-1 “Flying Banana”, and in later years at the University of Delaware.
She spent summers with her children in Ocean City, NJ, moving there full time after retirement.
She is survived by her son, William R Chalker, Jr. and his wife Dr. Sharon Weil-Chalker of Wallingford, PA; and, grandsons, William III and Ethan Chalker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William R Chalker, parents Lawton and Eunice King and her son Scott K. Chalker, Esq.
Burial with a short graveside service will be held 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Silverbrook Cemetery, 3300 Lancaster Ave, Wilmington, DE 19805. In lieu of flowers, please send any contributions to the Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics (FAST) at www.cureangelman.org.
