Jessie “Evelyn” McMullen of Port Deposit, MD, age 71, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017. She was born in Rome, GA on March 26, 1946 and named for her parents, the late Jesse Leroy Digsby and Samantha Evelyn (Tyree) Digsby.
Evelyn worked for the Perry Point Federal Credit Union for 15 years. She also served as a reserve officer for the Department of Natural Resources. Evelyn enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing Bingo, square dancing and flower gardening. She found great pleasure in raising and rehabilitating orphaned wildlife, having saved many lives through her efforts.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of 52 years, Norris “Blackie” McMullen; two sons: Michael McMullen and his wife, Constance of Rising Sun, MD and Charles McMullen of Ogden, KS and his former wife, Jennifer of Alaska ; three grandchildren: Robbie McMullen, Kristin Martin and her husband, John, and Joshua McMullen, all of Rising Sun, MD; great grandchild, J.J. Martin; two brothers: Leroy Digby and his wife, Jane of Alabama and Douglas Digsby and his wife, Tamara of Texas. In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her selected daughter, April “Love” Johnson.
A visitation will be held between 6PM and 8PM on June 11, 2017 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911. A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at 11AM on June 12, 2017 at the funeral home. Family and friends may begin visiting at 10AM. Burial will follow at Brookview Cemetery.
