Jesse “Sam” Samuel Patterson age 57 of Wilmington, DE passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. Sam was born on June 26, 1964 in Wilmington, DE to the late Marvin H. Patterson and Rebecca A. (Johnson) Przychodzieh.
Sam was the owner operator of Patterson Automotive in Wilmington, DE, working there since he was a teenager. He was a Nascar fan and enjoyed the outdoors including fishing and camping. Sam was a hotrodder and had built a hot rod that he very much enjoyed. He absolutely loved his German Shepherd dogs: Heidi, Elsa and Lanni.
Sam is survived by his companion, Cathy Dubois of Wilmington, DE; brothers: Robert E. Patterson of Elkton, MD and Richard H. Patterson of Elkton, MD; sisters: Patti Ann Patterson of Elkton, MD, Susan R. Lynch of Wilmington, DE, Nancy Patterson Betts of Elkton, MD, Amy Francis Verbonitz of Newark, DE, Tracy A. Reed of Bear, DE; and 2nd mother, Nancy W. Patterson of Wilmington, DE. In addition to his parents, Sam is preceded in death by his sister, Michelle Brame.
A celebration of Sam’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711 where family and friends may start visiting at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “American Diabetes Association” and sent in care of the funeral home.

I only knew Sam professionally, but I had only good things to say about him. He fixed my little yellow Beetle with the eyelashes and the key on the back, several times. I thought he was wonderful. He was so honest and fair and he definitely knew his way around a Beetle. Although I knew he was sick, I am so sorry to read of his passing.

Sam was someone you could trust. He always knew exactly how to fix my car and if he couldn't, he knew exactly who to have help me. If they messed up, he took my back to them to get it fixed. His customer service and care for your vehicle was amazing. I once asked him if he wanted to trade my VW for the hotrod truck in his shop. He just laughed. I am sure so many friends and family are missing you, Sam. I remember my time you had my VW, your puppy could put her paws and nose up on the counter to greet me.

I got his advice when we picked out our son's first car, we stayed and joked and played with the dogs when we stopped by ti pick up or drop off, and he always did his best to help us out.
