Jerry Vance Greer, age 69, of Newark, DE, died peacefully at home after battling chronic lymphocytic leukemia for 13 years. Jerry was born in West Chester, PA on August 16, 1944 to the late Vance E. and Mae (Osborne) Greer.
Jerry graduated in 1962 from Kennett Consolidated High School in Kennett Square, PA. He attended Goldey Beacom College and East Carolina University, and graduated in 1968 from the University of Baltimore in Baltimore, MD with a degree in accounting. He retired in 2004 from the General Motors Assembly Plant in Wilmington, DE, where he worked in the Materials Department. He went on to serve six years as an accountant for Degussa International in Wilmington, DE.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Rose (Rosie) Greer, of Newark, DE, and his children, Meredith Greer and her husband Brian Pfohl, of Lewiston, ME, Michael Greer of Charlotte, NC, and Melanie Greer of Newark, DE, and 3 grandchildren, Emily Greer of Bridgeport, WV, and Ellie and Julia Pfohl of Lewiston, ME.
Jerry and Rosie enjoyed traveling. He was very proud to have achieved his long time goal of visiting all 50 states. In addition, they visited Israel, Ireland, Canada, The Bahamas and The Dominican Republic. Jerry was an avid sports fan, especially following the Yankees, college football and local high school football. His greatest pleasure in life was any opportunity to spend time with family and friends. He was the ultimate “people person” seeking to make a connection with anyone he met and forever remembering the details of their lives, interests and experiences, with a memory like a steel trap. It is that quality that endeared him to a wealth of people who considered it an honor and a privilege to know him and count him among their dearest and closest friends.
A visitation will be held 5-8 on Friday, September 6, 2013 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911.
