Jeanne Coale Greer, age 87, of Conowingo, MD, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Seasons Hospice at Christiana Care in Newark, DE. She was born on July 8, 1929 in Principio, MD to the late Harold Webster and Reba Bernice Thompson Coale.
She attended Goldey Beacom College where she learned her secretarial skills. A civil servant her entire career, she started as a secretary at the Bainbridge Naval Station in Port Deposit, MD. Later, she would become a records manager, working at Aberdeen Proving Ground and Edgewood Army Depot from which she would retire. Strong and independent, she enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. She even visited the Bahamas. She was always up for a shopping trip, and also loved to read, knit and crochet when she wasn’t on the road. Jeanne was all about family, and the job she loved most was that of mother and grandmother, raising her children and assisting them with the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Smith, and her husband, Ardie, of Elkton, MD; daughter, Sandy Lucas, of Conowingo, MD; son, Michael Ostrander, and his wife LeeAnne, of Waco, TX; daughter, Donna Riddle, and her husband, Nicholas, of Wilkesboro, NC; a sister, Doris Gonce, of Rising Sun, MD; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and another on the way.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brothers, Paul Coale, and Harold Denwood “Jack” Coale, and a sister, Wanda Coale.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2PM on Friday, February 17, 2017 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 South Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911. Friends and family may visit one hour prior beginning at 1PM. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution checks can be made to the “Susan Komen” organization for breast cancer research, the “Leukemia and Lymphoma Society” or the “Encephalitis Center at Johns Hopkins” and sent c/o the funeral home.
