Jean Northrop, 81, of Elkton, MD, passed away December 22, 2013 at Union Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Livermore, KY, Jean was the daughter of the late Golson and Lois Hoover Boyken. She was a skilled seamstress and talented cook. She enjoyed travelling and discovering new places, especially to Paris, France and Shop Rite. Jean had an affinity for languages and was fluent in French and German. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends who remember her fiery spirit and wicked sense of humor.
Surviving are two daughters, Karolyn Bowe (Curtis) of Elkton and Kathleen Merritt (Russell) of Elkton; and two adopted sons, Timothy Walton of North East and Don Alexander of Aberdeen, MD; six grandchildren, Angela Northrop, Kassandra Walton, and Karlynne, Christian, Kyrie and Charles Bowe; two sisters and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, William T. Northrop; her sons, Thomas William (Billy) Northrop and Albert Kenneth (Kenny) Northrop.
A service honoring her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday December 28, 2013 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 East Main St., Elkton, MD 21921 with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Flowers are welcome, however contributions in Jean’s memory may be made to A Buddy for Life c/o the funeral home.
