Jean McKinney Smith age 97 of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2023. She was born on June 25, 1926, in Wilmington, DE to the late Wallace McKinney, and Verna (Gregg) Ramsey.

Jean retired from DuPont after working many years as a Secretary. She loved to spend time working in the yard and gardening. She enjoyed being outside feeding birds, squirrels, and other wildlife. Jean also loved collecting clocks that chimed. Jean will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Shirley Good (Greg Warren), and Gail Cooke (Paul).

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, and husband Arthur F. Smith.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at 12:00 pm on August 4, 2023, at R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE. Visitation will be at 11 am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite Animal Rescue in memory of Jean Smith and sent in care of the R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 W. Main Street, Newark DE 19711.

I remember summers at the beach with Aunt Jean, Uncle Smitty, Gail & Shirley. I always looked forward to their visit because I knew we'd be headed to the beach and McDonald's! After my mom passed, Aunt Jean was my last and closest link to all that family history. I loved calling her and we would talk about everything, sometimes as long as 3-4 hours at a time! We shared a love of reading and laughing- God, I will miss those phone calls and that laugh. I am so grateful to have had her in my life. All my love to you Shirley & Gail, Cindy

Aunt Jean, While my memories of my childhood are not vast, I always remember you and Uncle Smitty visiting Gayom and Bepop on your vacation. It was always an exciting time for me to get to see you and to this day I cannot smell Noxema without it taking back to those days and those visits. They are cherished memories.
