Jean Hillman Jessup, age 88, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2017. Born August 26, 1928 in Dunkirk, NY, Jean was the daughter of the late William and Marjorie Hillman.
Deeply devoted to her faith, Jean taught Sunday school for many years and was active in several church choirs both in New York and in Delaware. Upon moving to Delaware, Jean became a member of St. James Episcopal Church Mill Creek in Wilmington, DE. In her later years, she attended St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Newark, DE. She was also an active member of the Choral Society and the Dow Janes Investment Club. Jean was an English teacher for the New York school district, teaching 12th grade for most of her career. She was actively involved in the drama clubs throughout her teaching years. Jean was a wonderful mother and grandmother who cherished her family dearly. She was loved by all who had the privilege to know her and will be remembered for her strong hug and happy smile. She will be greatly missed.
Jean is survived by her son, Bernard Leland Jessup, III; two grandchildren: Olivia Kathryn Jessup and Christopher Russell Jessup; and daughter-in-law, Allison M. Jessup.
Including her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Bernard Leland Jessup, Jr. and her son, Christopher Hillman Jessup.
Services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “St. Thomas Episcopal Church” and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
