Jayne worked in her early years but was a homemaker most of her life being the best wife and mother possible. She had a hobby of creating miniatures, which is building small, scale recreations of houses, rooms and items, and showed her creations at the annual Philadelphia Flower show. Jayne was a member of the Fort Delaware Society and was a member of the Board of Directors. She also maintained an interest in the study of genealogy.

She is survived by her sons, Rich Shafer of Newark, DE, and Joseph Shafer and his wife, Pauline of Smyrna, DE; grandchildren, Joseph, Jordan, James and Joe; and her dog, Jack.

A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at R.T. Foard & Jones Inc., 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Friends and family may visit one hour prior beginning at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, contribution checks can be made to “Fort Delaware Society” in Jayne’s honor and sent c/o the funeral home.

Missing you so much!

I hope you aren't getting everyone involved with genealogy. LOL Hope you are resting in peace. Wish you were here though.

Jayne will be remembered as a very cheerful lady. She was very knowledgeable and helpful with her genealogy chats.

I took care of the lawn at janes house for about four years I'm going to miss her very much she would always great me at the gates with a hug before I got started mowing I'm going to miss my hugs she was such a living kind person rest in peace jane I know ur spirit will be at peepatch because you luv that place

So sorry to hear of Jayne's passing. She was a very nice lady and I enjoyed talking to her at the Senior Center.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Jayne's passing. She was so dedicated to Fort Delaware and to preserving history. She never had a bad thing to say about anyone and was always so kind and friendly. I never saw her without a smile on her face. I remember fondly how she'd take Jack everywhere with her and we'd swap stories about our four-legged 'children'. Rest easy Jayne, you will most definitely be missed.

Jayne joined Civil War chat 1995/6 w/ Jim Walker Host, his co Host resigned and Jim ask me to co Host,, I fully recommended Jayne,, what a GREAT HOST she has been,, Jim met Jayne, Jayne let me know when Jim Walker died a few months ago.. Jayne was a wonderful friend. I enjoyed lunches with her at the Senior Center and playing Table Tennis. She was always a smiling and happy person. Always good to be around. You will be missed lots.

I met Jane while in a genealogy chat room several years ago. when I was in PA for a family Reunion, she and her husband drove up to REALLY meet me, and we had a great time. She will be missed.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Jayne McCormick. Jayne was a great genealogist and historian. It was a pleasure to know Jayne and do a memorial for a good friend in Allentown, PA. Also, it was fun taking the dimensions of President Lincoln’s outhouse in Springfield, and sending Jayne a drawing and specs to make a miniature outhouse... what fun. I will always remember Jayne. I have served with Jayne, as a member of the Fort Delaware Society for many years. I have found Jayne to be kind and a willing volunteer. Her kindness extended to every one. I will miss her and I know the Fort Delaware Society has lost a good friend. I and the other Board members extend our deepest sympathy too Jayne's family.

So sorry to hear of Jayne's sudden passing. She had many friends - even though many of us had never met her in person. We understood her passion for history, her love for genealogy and her dedication to four footed friend Jack, her beloved companion. Rest in peace, Jayne.

I met Jayne through a mutual friend, Amy (Waltz) Kirkpatrick. I got to know her better through the Genealogy chats. we did not live too far away from each other, so once in a while, we could get together, face to face. She was a kind, generous and caring person. She was always willing to help out other people. She volunteered at Fort Delaware and spent many happy hours researching in the offices of the Fort Delaware Society. She was a wonderful friend and my life was enriched by her. I miss you Jayne!

I was very shocked to hear Jayne passed. I only knew her through the Looking 4 Kin Genealogy chat presentations. She was a wealth of knowledge and seemed like a really fun person. We will all miss her!! RIP Jayne

We had such A nice chat at the last reunion. So glad I could share some of her Life of fun and devotion. I also understood that she almost did not attend. Funny the way things work out. We will all miss her.

Jayne and I were classmates at Radnor High School in Wayne, PA. We graduated together in 1958 and went our separate ways. I ran into her again in DE in the 70's. For the last several years, Jayne and I have been going to lunch every other Wednesday. I will truly miss Jayne...she was a pleasure to be with. Together we reminisced about our early childhood days in Bryn Mawr, PA. She loved the Civil War history, Genealogy, and her faithful dog "Jack". I can't express how much my sorrow is on her passing. I want her family to know that Jayne will be waiting to reunite with them in Heaven...and I am sure I will see her again one day soon when I also go to meet my maker. God bless you Jayne and may you rest in peace.

I was totally shocked when I learned that Jayne had passed! I spoke to her about a month or so ago. She was a very dedicated to all things genealogical and historic. She had a real gift of sharing that! I knew her husband Ben as well when they were both in the Delaware Genealogical Society. Jayne McCormick was the best partner anyone ever had in the Genealogy Chat community. She hosted chats on AOL with many different people and they'll all confirm this. Jayne and I hosted GENTREK Chats together for over a decade. We hosted on AOL, AOL.UK, GenealogyLookups.com, Looking4Kin.com, and GenealogyWise.com. She also hosted Civil War chats and the morning chat, Mugs & Hugs. More than a partner, however, Jayne invited us into HER family. We shared her grief at the passing of Ben, her late husband. We sailed with her to the Caribbean Islands on a genealogy cruise. We shared her joy when Jack, her dog, came into her life. We all were HER life! We researched with her online and in libraries and archives. Jayne will truly be missed, but her LEGACY lives on. Please, say a prayer and thank our Father for sharing her with us these many years. Jayne was one those people who was always willing to help. She really helped me with my Civil War research. I learned a lot from her . She will be missed by myself and everyone who had the pleasure of know her.
