Janet Mae McKinney, 84, of Elkton, MD passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, September 6, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Elkton, MD, on January 31, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Carroll and Emma (Russell) Jones. In January 1958, Janet married Walter Price McKinney, and they began their lives together in Elkton, MD.
She was a devoted mother to Walter McKinney (Patricia), Kimmy McKinney, Darlene Shaffer, Angela David (Jeff), Timmy McKinney (Lisa), and Shayne McKinney (Jenifer). She took special joy in making fond memories with her grandchildren, John Shaffer, Adam McKinney, Amanda Shaffer-Stanley (Jonathan), Tara Cline, Kenny Boyles, and Jacob Clark. Janet’s real pride and joy were her great grandchildren, Hunter Stanley, McKinna Stanley, River Cline and Hudson Clark. She is survived by her siblings, Patricia Richards, Carol Lee Robinson (Bill), Mary Jenkins (Thomas), Phyllis Eldreth (Ted), Gene Jones (Paula), Roxanne Ivey (Jerry), and Doris Potter (Kelly). She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends that were like family to her.
What Janet enjoyed the most in life was spending time with her family and close friends. She cherished times spent gathered on her front porch, playing bingo, listening to music and singing karaoke. She was a strong and caring woman who often opened her home to those in need. She had a heart of gold, a quality that she passed along to all her children.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carla McKinney Kinder, her son-in-law, John Shaffer, her brother, Jimmy Jones, her grandson-in-law, Kevin Cline, and her brother-in-law, James Richards.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, September 14th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Fish Whistle at the Granary, located at 100 George Street, Georgetown, MD 21930.
