Janet M. Thompson, 72, of Bear, DE, passed away at her home February 24, 2015.

Born in the Bronx, NY on June 11, 1942, Janet was the daughter of the late James and Justine Favitta. Janet will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was known for being a selfless, compassionate, generous and kind woman. After raising her three children, Janet enjoyed returning to the workforce until she began providing special care to her mother and mother-in-law during their time of need. She enjoyed gardening and traveling, particularly to Monument Valley Utah and Jackson Hole, WY. The family wishes to thank Delaware Hospice and Shorecare of Delaware, with a special thanks to Rose Magembe for all of her loving care.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jack Thompson of Bear, DE; a son, John F. Thompson, II of Bear, De.; daughters, Susan Hess and her husband Vincent of Wilmington, DE, and Pamela Workman and her husband Douglas of Fallston, MD; a brother Richard Favitta of Finksburg, MD; grandchildren, Vincent and Nicholas Hess, and Bethany and Morgan Workman; and a great-granddaughter, Hailey Hess.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 345 Bear-Christiana Road Bear, DE 19701 on Tuesday March 3, 2015 at 12:30 pm with a visitation at the church beginning at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shorecare of Delaware and mailed care of R.T.
