Janet Grimes Gee of Wilmington, DE, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. Janet was born on October 17, 1939 in Wilmington, DE to the late Horace Grimes Sr. and Mabel (Broadbent) Grimes.

When Janet was 8 years old, she went to live with her Aunt Bessie after her mom died. She graduated from William Penn High School in 1957 and married her high school sweetheart right after high school and had 62 wonderful years of marriage. After raising her children, Janet went to work for W.L. Gore Inc. until her retirement. After retiring she loved taking trips to Florida and spend time in her beach home in Rehoboth Beach. Janet’s family was her whole life, she absolutely adored all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved baking, reading and sewing. The best advice she ever gave her children included: “No matter what the situation, just always care” and “I don’t care what you do in life, just be kind”. Her family will especially remember her inquisitive nature.

Janet is survived by her son, Richard Gee, Jr. and his wife, Lisa; daughter Wendi MacAllister and her husband, Jim; daughter, Amy Dolan and her husband, Mark; son, Scott Gee and his wife, Cindy; 8 grandchildren: Michael, Caitlin and her husband, Corey Ponte, Kyle MacAllister, Taylor Gee, Colton Gee, Connor Gee, Christian Dolan, Cassidy Dolan; and 2 great grandchildren: Ryder and River Ponte. In addition to her parents, Janet is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Richard Gee Sr.; sister, Mildred Shaw; and brother, Horace “Rusty” Grimes.

A celebration of Janet’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711 where family and friends may start visiting at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be immediately after at Ebenezer United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “American Heart Association” and sent in care of the funeral home.
