I lovingly think of Jane often.
Helen Lewis Peel "Helen Carol" to Aunt Jane left a message on April 2, 2014:
Mary Jane, Bill and family, Aunt Jane was truly a gift in my life. I always looked forward to seeing Aunt Jane as far back as I can remember when she and Uncle Bill would visit Aunt Helen and Uncle Henry while we were there as well. She was such an endearing lady, so filled with grace, charm and wit that I couldn't resist being drawn to her. I so enjoyed the times when she would whisk me away from Hillcrest in her little convertible and we would spend time at the apartment on Main Street or make a shopping venture downtown. I can see her sitting in the sunporch at Aunt Helen and Uncle Henry's with her wispy red hair swept up in a bun and glistening in the sunlight while sharing stories of her love for Uncle Bill and their adventures...her delightful Boston accent adding flare to every story. I can see her behind the wheel of the convertible wearing her sunglasses, her hair in a scarf, tossing her head back in laughter from one of her stories. I was always fascinated by her incredibly thin gold anniversary bracelets from Puerto Rico. As a child, I'd sit with her and finger them as she told me stories of her past and her experiences with Uncle Bill. In recent years, I noticed she wasn't wearing as many as she once did and I shared that memory with her. She remarked, "You know, Helen Carol dear, they were once fine and delicate but now they're old and have worn down and some of them have broken with age like me." As I grew older, my fondness, affection and admiration for her continued to deepen. We became confidants and shared many joys and concerns. In her last months, my calls were brief because of her weakness but even then the time we shared seem like an elixir. Such a gift she had at always making me, and others, feel very special. Sometimes its interesting to reflect on our lives as to whom has impacted us and the memories we have. Times like this certainly take us to those places in our hearts. Although we didn't see one another regularly, Aunt Jane was certainly one of those people who had a prominent place in my heart and always will. I love you, Aunt Jane (aka my own personal Katherine Hepburn)

I'm so sorry to learn of Jane's passing. I'm a former resident of Ingleside Homes. I moved there the same year as your Mother and got to know her well. We both lost our husbands that same year. She was a beautiful lady. Together we volunteered at the Gift Shop. I had to move from Ingleside to an assisted living home several years ago and I missed her friendship. You, her children, will be in my thoughts and prayers. With my deepest sympathy, Mary T. Brown
Karen Hickson (Brown) left a message on March 4, 2014:
It is with sadness that I write this. Jane was a very special person who was well loved - in particular, I need to mention how much she was regarded and loved by my grandparents (Agnes Leard, my grandmother was Jane's father's sister) - when we last visited Jane, she spoke of my grandparents and how much she loved spending summers with them when she was a teenager. I, along with my mother and sisters, were so glad to have time with Jane during the past few years - it meant so much to my mother to be able to visit her in Delaware and talk to her on the phone - especially given their close family links, ages and memories. We all wish we had more time to be together with her. With much love to all her family, Karen

Dear Mary Jane and Bill What a beautiful description for a beautiful woman. when Jane invited me to come for a visit I had my first plane ride. she told me to pick a flight that served meals to get the most of my money She always gave me good advice. In later years we lived miles apart but we kept in touch by mail and phone. I miss her
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I enjoyed visiting with Jane a few years age with my mom, Betty, and sister, Kippy. Jane shared some of her fondest memories with us, including her stay as a teenager at Aunt Agnes and Uncle Charlie's house in Hampden. It was so much fun chatting about her enriching experiences. She surely knew how to live life to it's fullest! Bill and Mary Jane, please accept our deepest sympathy. Carolyn and Gerry Greenleaf

Bill and Mary, What a wonderful woman so beautifully described. I always loved and admired your Mom, Bill. I had no idea she was in Wilmington or I would surely have gone to see her. I hope you will get in touch with me. I have several letters to you which I mailed to a New York address and they were returned. I will hope to see you at her services. My heart goes out to you now in your time of loss. She lived an incredibly full and wonderful life and clearly had excellent care to have lived to such a fine age. I know you will miss her, as I do my Mom. My phone is 443-206-0664 and email is susanblake64@outlook.com. I live near Cherry Hill on 218 Carters Mill Rd, near Tracy and her husband and 4 children. Would love to see you both, as well as Mary Jane and Bill. All my best. Love, Susan
