James “Jimmy” W. Neal, age 77, of Newark, DE went to his eternal rest on Monday, September 12, 2022. A native Delawarean, he was born on February 9, 1945.
James was a proud graduate of H.C. Conrad H.S. He was a veteran of the US Army from 1965 until 1967. James’ primary career was as a Corrections Office with the Sate of Delaware from 1970 until his retirement in 2005. He was a prominent member of several historical organizations including: the American Legion Post 10, the New Castle Moose Lodge, the Newark Senior Center; the Civil War Round Table and the Sons of the American Revolution.
James was a lifetime member of The Holy Angels Catholic Church in Newark, DE. He also enjoyed doing water aerobics with “The Deep End” pool group, following the Phillies baseball games and spending quality time with his family. James was a kind, considerate and responsible man who will be remembered as an American Patriot, a good Catholic, and a devoted family man.
James was preceded in death by his father, William Neal; mother, Leona Griffin Neal; two brothers: Robert Neal and William Neal; and sister, Mildred McCleary Bowen.
James is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Dorsey Neal; four daughters: Theresa Quezada (Sal), Susan Reed (Scott), Kelly DeBlois and Ashley Neal; three grandchildren: Kayla, Savannah and Brandon; former son-in-law, Leslie Quezada; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 82 Possum Park Rd., Newark, DE 19711, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in James’ honor may be made payable to “NAMI” – the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
