James Walter Myrtle, age 76, peacefully passed away on the morning of Saturday, October 21st while surrounded by family and loved ones.
James grew up in the Green Meadows neighborhood outside Washington DC. He graduated from Archbishop Carroll High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree from University of Maryland and continued to fly his Terrapins flags through his final days. James proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was best known for his unrelenting willingness to help others, a quick wit, and a voracious appetite for crosswords which were always completed surrounded by his dogs listening to music.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alice Myrtle, and his brothers, Michael Myrtle, Chip Myrtle, and John Myrtle. Amongst the closest he left behind are his daughters, Heather Rini and Trisha Semiz, their mother, Patricia Juliano, four grandchildren, Evan and Emma Rini and Jack and Matthew Semiz. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Klarfeld and Martha Kinsey, his brother Edward Myrtle, and a very well cared for labradoodle, Mr. Magoo. They all look forward to joining him again in Heaven to share a bushel of crabs, music and laughter but not before they each live life to the fullest with the wisdom and humor he bestowed.
James’s Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, November 4th at R.T. Foard and Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main Street, Newark DE 19711. The family will be available for visitation an hour prior. A Celebration of Life is planned following his interment at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware in early 2024.
