James W. Gibney, age 92 of Rising Sun, MD passed away on January 11, 2024 at home. He was born in Perry County, PA on November 26, 1931 to the late Bryan W. Gibney and Grace E. (Byers) Gibney.
Jim started farming in the Rising Sun community and then worked as a sales manager for Alger Oil. Later selling cars for Lowell McCoy at McCoy Lincoln Mercury, while also being a proprietor of Sue’s Restaurant all in Rising Sun, MD. Jim was an active member of many community organizations in the Rising Sun, MD area throughout his life. Jim was a classic car collector and enthusiast.
Jim is survived by his son, James Gibney and his wife, Mary of Rising Sun, MD; step-daughter, Gerry Knotts and her companion, Tom Vaughan of Rising Sun, MD; and step-son, Michael Ritchie and his wife, Kim of Elkton, MD; four grandsons: Allen Reed and his wife, Cathy, Chris Ritchie and his wife, Kristina, William Cooper and his wife, Krista, and Michael Cooper and his companion, Dennis Nelms; granddaughter, Ashley Beyer and her husband, Josh; nine great grandchildren: Caleb Reed, Brayden Reed, Brynlee Ritchie, Jude Ritchie, Nolan Beyer, Milena Beyer, Billy Cooper, Joey Cooper, and Kyle Cooper; three great great-grandchildren: Serenidy, Aria, and Jac; brother, George Gibney and his companion, Ruthann Rickert of Rising Sun, MD; sister, Ruth Fulmer and her husband, Bill of Wilmington, DE; brother-in-law, Lowell White and his wife, Pauline; and sister-in-law, Audrey Rierson.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Emily Mae “Sue” Gibney; sister, Mary Ann Logan; and brother, Bryan A. Gibney.

A visitation will be held from 6-8PM on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at R.T. Foard Life Event Center, 111 South Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 2191l. A celebration of life will be held at 11AM on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at R.T. Foard Life Event Center, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10AM. Burial will follow at Brookview Cemetery, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
