James “Jim” Verdon Barnes of Newark, DE, age 78, passed away Monday, November 1, 2021. Jim was born on May 18, 1943 in Port Huron, MI to the late Vincent J. Barnes and Muriel Fern (Oke) Barnes.

Jim graduated Port Huron High School in 1961. He served his country in the United States Air Force and went on to work for the Mopar Division of Chrysler Corporation from 1965-2006. Jim loved spending time with his grandchildren, watching t.v. and enjoying retirement. He was also a member of the U.A.W. Local 404.

Jim is survived by his sons: James Barnes and his wife, Melanie of Rising Sun, MD, Shaun Barnes and his wife, Christine of Newark, DE, Joseph Barnes and his wife, Mary of Las Vegas, NV, Stacy Pinder of Delaware City, DE; granddaughter, Taylor Morris and her husband Franklin; grandsons: Zachary Barnes and Vincent Barnes; great-grandson, Benjamin Morris; great-granddaughter, Vivian Morris; sister, Sally Barnes Miller of Newark, DE; brothers: Roger Barnes and Robert Barnes of Newark, DE; sister, Marion “Mitzi” Barnes Moyer of Millsboro, DE; sister, Debra Barnes Spicer of Middletown, DE; many nieces and nephews and special friend, Dale Sheraton. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Barnes; and niece, Amanda Miller.

A memorial service for Jim will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Helen Graham Cancer Center” and send in care of R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
