In Loving Memory of James Lamar Stoudt
James Lamar Stoudt, aged 89, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home with his family on November 14, 2023. Jim was born in Porter Township, PA, on July 10, 1934, to Robert and Lottie (nee, Fromme) Stoudt. Jim was the devoted husband of Beverly (nee, McCallion) Stoudt.
Jim graduated from Tower City High School where he happily played basketball in a very small gym. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, part of which was a world-widening adventure in Fulda, Germany. Following his military service, he dedicated 44 years of his life to General Motors, working diligently on the assembly line until his well-deserved retirement. Jim was not only committed to his professional life but also actively engaged in his community volunteering as an Ambulance Driver and fireman with Aetna, Hose, Hook and Ladder Co. and helping the Newark Area Welfare Committee, particularly with the Christmas Food Basket Program. As a member of New Castle Presbyterian Church, Jim found loving support and community on his faith journey.
Jim was a longtime season ticket holder of the University of Delaware Blue Hens Football and Basketball (men and women) teams, and happily attended most away football games. His family fondly remembers him for his patience, calm demeanor, and his joy of dining out. He always could be found taking photos and videos at family functions, sporting events, and church activities. May the memories of Jim’s warmth, community spirit, and the love of family and sports bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
Jim has been preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Pauline Stoudt, Helen Gruber Gassaway and Winnie Scheib, and brother Robert Stoudt. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Beverly, and his dear children: Kevin Stoudt (Terry), Rich Valiant (Jill), Shaun Valiant, and Cristin Harding. He is also remembered by his precious grandchildren: Jill Famiglietti, Amanda Otruba, Katlyn Burr, Marquis Harding, Miles Harding, Mason Harding, Samuel Valiant, Rudy Valiant, and Elijah Valiant, eight very busy great-grandchildren, and faithful sisters: Carol Reiser (Lee) and Bonnie Fisher; loving nieces and nephews: Dee, Debbie, Craig, Carol, Cathy, Lee, Lori, Gary, Denny, Tammy, Troy and Todd. He is further survived by his former wife, Elaine Stoudt.
In lieu of flowers Jim would like those who mourn him to donate to Aetna, Hose, Hook and Ladder Co., PO Box 148, Newark, DE 19715.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Saturday November 25 at 3 PM with visitation at 2 PM in the Meeting House of New Castle Presbyterian Church, 25 East 2nd Street, New Castle, DE 19702. The family will hold a private inurnment.
