James “Jim” Leo Halligan, age 74, of Newark, DE passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2020. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on February 3, 1946 to the late James Robert Halligan and Margaret Elizabeth (Kuhns) Halligan.
Jim had a passion for teaching and took great joy in educating others. He worked as an English teacher at Christiania High School for many years. In addition to teaching, he worked as a Real Estate Agent for Remax were he enjoyed helping people in the community find their dream home.
Jim had a great love for dogs that kept him company over the years: Bugsy; Zoey; Lady; Diesel; Berry; and Bonnie & Clyde. He was an avid reader and loved reading mystery and suspense books. Jim loved having deck parties, inviting friends to come over to swim in his pool and he enjoyed serving his famous bar-b-que ribs. In his later years, he enjoyed watching CNN, or as he would call it “The Trump Show”. Jim was a car collector. His favorite brand was Mercedes. He loved sharing his Rehoboth beach house with friends and family.
Jim has been a long-time member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. During his time as a member of the Church, he took great joy in helping the youthful missionaries who served in the Newark area. He had an open-door policy for any of the missionaries to come over whenever they needed anything. Jim treated them all as if they were his sons. He enjoyed reading the Book of Mormon and loved educating everyone about his faith and sharing his testimony of Jesus Christ.
Jim will always be remembered as a kind and generous man who would do anything for anyone. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Jim was preceded in death by his siblings Daniel and Mary and is survived by his siblings Thomas, Ruth and Michael.
Memorial services celebrating Jim’s life will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
