James Frederick Forwood, age 83, of Conowingo, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 3, 1942, in Baltimore, he was the beloved son of the late Charles and Ruth (née Hershfield) Forwood, and the devoted husband of 20 years to Linda Vosburgh Forwood.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, carrying with him a lifelong sense of duty and quiet patriotism. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 37 years to Western Electric, where he worked as a skilled switchgear installer. His career took him across the country, playing a vital role in building and maintaining the telephone systems that connected communities throughout America.
Outside of his work, Jim embraced life with enthusiasm and a deep appreciation for simple joys. He had a passion for dirt sprint car racing, especially following the World of Outlaws. He was more than a fan—he was hands-on in the pit area, always willing to lend a hand and be part of the action.
Jim cherished time spent with his family, particularly their many camping adventures in their RV. One of his favorite destinations was the scenic Catoctin Mountain area, where he found peace in nature. A talented and patient craftsman, he enjoyed woodworking, creating beautiful clocks, shelves, and intricate scrollwork pieces that will remain treasured keepsakes for years to come. He also found great joy in fishing on the Chesapeake Bay, appreciating both the sport and the serenity it brought.
Above all, Jim will be remembered for his warm and welcoming nature. He never met a stranger and had a genuine kindness that made others feel at ease. He had a special affection for children and took immense pride in being a grandfather, cherishing every moment spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, William Forwood, and his sister, Ellen Jackson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Vosburgh Forwood; his children, Robert Forwood and his partner Tammy Young, Sharon Wienreich and her husband Michael, Kevin Forwood and his fiancée Mandi Deares, Brian Forwood, and Karl Forwood; his stepdaughters, Melissa Crider and her husband Jamie, and Sarah Garver; his sister, Nancy Baller; his brother, Tom Forwood and his wife Carol; as well as a multitude of cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
