James “Jamie” Edward Niland, 52, of Newport, DE passed away Friday, February 16, 2018. He was born on December 4, 1965 in Arlington, VA to Barbara (Wetherill) Niland and the late Joseph F. Niland II.
As a child Jamie hiked the C&O Canal and was a boy scout. He was a member of the graduating class of 1983 of Centennial High School in Howard County, MD where he was voted most likely to hike the Appalachian Trail. As a young man Jamie liked to go to night clubs and attend concerts. He enjoyed watching football, especially his favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles. Jamie loved rock and roll music, especially the Black Crowes, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin.
Jamie was a positive person who was quick to forgive and didn’t hold on to resentment. He always wanted to help others in need and little he had, he shared with others. Jamie kept a positive approach to dealing with his mental illness and other disabilities.
Jamie is survived by his mother, Barbara Niland; brother, Marty and his wife, Mary; two nieces and one nephew. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Niland.
Services for Jamie will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the go-fund-me account to help pay for funeral expenses.
