James C. “Jim” Lee of Newark, DE, age 80, passed away July 9, 2020. Jim was born on August 8, 1939 in Newark, DE to the late Harvey Preston Lee and Mary E. (Rambo) Lee.
Jim was in the Air Force from 1958-1962 and was a Sergeant First Class in the Delaware Army National Guard from 1979-1999 where he was named the 1st Delaware Army National Guard Soldier of the Year. Jim also belonged to the American Legion in Delaware City. He was an instrumental part of starting and was on the Board of the Pencader Heritage Museum. Jim was very athletic; loved hiking and back packing especially at the Apalachian Trails in the Virginia Mountains and would participate in the “Bike to the Bay”, he ran marathons, and was a soccer coach for the Delaware Vipers. He was very proud and had a strong love for his family and his country. Jim also loved his faithful companion, Skipper.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carol A. Lee; son, Robert E. Lee and his wife Kathryn of Sudbury, MA; daughter, Tammie L. Kanich and her husband Paul of Newark, DE; son, James P. Lee and his wife Jodi of South Haven, MN; 9 grandchildren: James, Mary, Norah, Amber, Christopher, Kaitlyn “Griffin”, Jaiden and Jacie; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Florence Smith of Newark, DE, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his brothers: Ferris and Robert Lee.
Burial for Jim will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Pencader Museum-Pencader Heritage Area Association” (please mark in memo portion of check “Endowment Fund”) or “Delaware Alzheimer’s Association” and can be sent in care of R.T.
