James W.”Buddy” Benson, Sr., aged 75, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2012 at Christiana Care in Newark, DE. He was born January 13, 1937 in Massey, MD to the late Harry and Ruth (Moorehead) Benson.
He retired as a delivery truck driver of 45 years for Southern States, and during his lifetime, Buddy pursued his hobbies of growing his vegetable garden and collecting model cars and trucks. He also liked fishing and hunting, and had an extensive bottle collection. What Buddy most loved about retirement was being a grandfather to his family, who will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Benson; sons David B. and wife Rosalie of Bear, DE, Mark W. and wife Dawn of Newark, DE, and James W., Jr. and wife Danielle of Newark, DE; daughters Jane W. Benson and L. Betty Benson, both of Newark, DE; sister Loraine Hutchison, of Dover, DE; and seven grandchildren, Scott, Taylor, Abigail, Mark Jr, Jenna, Kacee, and Morgan.
Service will be held 11 AM on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at R.T. Foard & Jones F.H., 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Friends and family may view 1 hour prior to service. Burial will follow at St. Clement’s Cemetery in Massey, MD.
