Reverend James Brockway Jones (Jim), age 67 of Rising Sun, MD passed away on February 1, 2017. He was born on September 16, 1949 in Rockford, IL to the late, Hueblin Brockway Jones and Maxine (Campbell) Jones.
Reverend Jim dedicated his life to serving his community. In 1976, Jim became the pastor for Leeds United Methodist Church in Elkton, MD and was transferred to Janes United Methodist Church in Rising Sun, MD in 1984 where he served 27 years as their pastor. Not only did Reverend Jim dedicate his life to his God and his community, but he was also involved in many other community activities as well. Jim was a Chaplin for the North East State Police, was a member of the Board of Directors for Social Services as well as Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). He was also a Master of Ceremony every year for Rising Sun Little League where he showed his love and support for the American game. One could find Jim at his “home away from home” or Sue’s Restaurant in town. Every morning, Jim would walk to the restaurant and enter through the kitchen to do some taste testing before he enjoyed a nice home cooked meal.
Reverend Jim is survived by his wife, Rebecca Jones of Rising Sun, MD; sons: Drew Jones of Atlanta, GA and Blake Jones on Tempe, AZ; sister, Pam Smith of Pittsboro, NC; and half-brother, Rick Alvis of Rocky Mount, NC.
A celebration of Reverend Jim’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Janes United Methodist Church, 213 North Walnut Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911. Burial will follow at Brookview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to, “Janes United Methodist Church” to go towards the “Reverend Jim Jones Youth Scholarship Fund” and send in care of the church.
