James “Jim” Arcidiacono, Sr., known affectionately as “Archie,” passed away at the age of 71 on Friday, December 15, 2023, in Elkton, MD. Born on February 5, 1952, in Wilmington, DE, he was the beloved son of the late Louis Arcidiacono, Sr., and Yvonne Arcidiacono (née Trefney).
Jim served with pride in the United States Navy as a Corpsman, receiving his initial medical training. His commitment to healthcare spanned over forty years at Christiana Care Hospital before retiring. Beyond his professional life, Jim was an avid sports fan, finding joy in fishing, particularly post-retirement outings with friends. His love for the Phillies, Eagles, 76ers, Villanova Basketball, and the Blue Rocks was evident whether watching games on TV or cheering live at Frawley Stadium, hoping for a Blue Rocks win and the sight of Mr. Celery. During his high school years, he shined on the baseball field as a star pitcher, once holding the record for no-hitters at New Castle Little League, and also played basketball. This passion extended to his workplace, where he was a valuable member of the Medical Center softball team. Jim found delight in strategic games like pool and had a fondness for bowling. He also cherished watching movies, especially Westerns and Hallmark Channel offerings. A devoted collector, he treasured items related to the Wizard of Oz. Travel was another love, with Disney Parks and the annual pilgrimage to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, holding special places in his heart. Goofy was his favorite Disney character, and his grandkids adored Pop Pop Archie’s Goofy Laugh.
Beyond his achievements, Jim will be remembered for his unwavering dedication and selflessness, always putting others’ needs before his own. His legacy will endure in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Jim is survived by his two sons, Jim Arcidiacono, Jr., and his wife, Jacqui, and Marc Arcidiacono and his girlfriend, Angela Willis; two grandchildren: Julianna and Gianna; brother, Anthony Arcidiacono; nieces: Crystal Cubillo, Nicol Blevins, Ellen Taylor-Lunrano, and Eve Taylor-Robinson, along with many more nephews and nieces; brother-in-law, Frank Taylor; and sister-in-law, Connie Taylor.
