Jacqueline Stewart Thompson passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, at 98. Born September 20, 1926, she was a long-time resident of Wilmington, Delaware.
Jackie graduated from Conrad High School in 1944 and attended Mary Washington University, where she perfected her skills as a gifted seamstress and cook. After marrying in 1948, she and her husband, Paul, moved to North Carolina.
Returning to Delaware in 1983, Jackie and her family started The Crab Trap Restaurant, a popular dining spot near the UD campus until 2007. Jackie’s talents in the kitchen were evident in the unique selections on the restaurant’s menu. Not only did Jackie find joy in cooking, but she was also an avid reader, traveler, and decorator. She remained sharp and witty, discussing current events and politics until the end of her life.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jeffers Thompson, and her son, Michael (Karen Anderson). She is survived by her children, Jane Rae (Thomas) and Timothy (Karen), seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Jacqueline Stewart Thompson will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her. She exuded warmth, kindness, and a quiet but strong demeanor. The lessons she taught us in grace and integrity will always be with us.
A celebration of Jacqueline’s life will be held for family in a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Friends Home of Kennett Square, PA, where Jackie received compassionate care during the last two months of her life.
