Jacob “Jake” Franklin Shew passed away peacefully at home on May 11, 2026. Born on September 15, 1935, in Newark, Delaware, he was the middle child of Clifford and Isabel Shew. Jake was preceded in death by his wife Carole Faye Christian Shew, sister Bess Shew Parrish, brother Clifford Shew, and his parents. He is survived by his daughters, Lori Shew Jones, Abby Shew, Amy Shew Moseder and her husband Chris Moseder, and his cherished grandson Christian Jacob Moseder.

Jake was a natural athlete, excelling in any sport he attempted. He stayed active his entire life and was often seen walking around his neighborhood even as he turned 90 years of age. He spent time tending to his flower beds and healing dying plants brought home by his daughters. He loved to tinker in his basement and could fix most things. Jake was a man of few words, but those who knew him well knew his deep loyalty, kind heart, and clever wit. He was a gentle and loving father and grandfather. His best advice was shared in the ways he lived his life: save your money, eat ice cream every night, sit and enjoy the sunshine, and always look for the best in people.

A celebration of Jake’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 11:00AM at R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711, where friends and family may begin visiting at 10:00AM. A burial will be held privately at a later date.
